Neill Rogers
I was born in North Carolina and lived in a house right up against an old abandoned, public golf course.
While this did little for my game, what it did do was start an early fascination with wild green fields and soft patterns of sunlight. Fast forward to my mid-thirties, living in a small NY apartment and not feeling very creative as a writer in my advertising creative job, I started sketching and then filling in the landscapes with the colors of my childhood. So apart from studying my favorites like Cezanne and Matisse, I am self-taught.
I work almost exclusively in pastels. I like how they feel, how they look—and they're good to work with when you live in a small apartment in Paris. For the last 15 years, I have been fortunate enough live, work and travel around Europe. All of the pieces I’ve chosen for this exhibit show the places I’ve loved as well as people I’ve loved sharing them with. In other words, if I see it and feel it, I put it on paper.
