John Lindfield started oil painting when he was 65 years of age. His main teaching influences during his time of painting have been the two invited artists David Sawyer and Jason Tremlett. John attended three or four short courses run by David who has become a close friend and they paint together en plein air once or twice a year. John’s interest in painting normal life in urban scenes was stimulated very much by David Sawyer with his expertise and success in painting architectural subjects. John also studied traditional portrait painting, part time for two years with Jason Tremlett in Lewes using the sight size method until Covid forced Jason to close his atelier. Unfortunately there has not been much opportunity to paint portraits since but again a friendship developed and they sometimes paint together en plein air. John is a member of the Hastings and St Lenard Plein Air Group often painting local scenes with them and is an enthusiastic member of the Hastings Arts Forum where he is pleased to be having his first exhibition. He intends to be exhibiting more often in future and hopes that this first exhibition proves to be of interest to the people visiting the gallery.”
