I was a hobby potter on and off whilst working first as a theatre designer and later in education. We moved to Hastings in 2013, where I set up a garden studio and joined the local college to use their facilities, expertise and friendship. I throw (lots of practice during lockdown), hand build and cast from my own moulds, decorating with coloured slips. I love to build up texture with brushes, stencils, splattering and resist. I enjoy the arbitrary & serendipitous nature of the results, akin to the excitement of opening the kiln. I make my own coloured slips to match clay body and also use Amaco velvets & Contem underglazes. I am a member of the Kent Potters Association and London Potters- enjoying a fascinating potters’ trip to South Korea with the latter just before the pandemic. I also use my theatrical know-how to design sets for the Stables Theatre.
