Annabel Faraday
I was born in Germany and spent several years of my childhood in Egypt before coming to England in 1956. I discovered clay at Farnham Art School on Saturday morning classes in the early 1960s. After leaving school in 1967, I attended Winchester Art School, where I was introduced to conceptual art and concrete poetry, and then Croydon College of Art. In my early 40s, after studying Sociology and gaining a Ph.D in Lesbian Studies at Essex University, I returned to my first love of clay, as one of the initial students on the City Lit Ceramics Diploma course in 1989.
Since moving from Bethnal Green to East Sussex in 2016, my interest has evolved from making vessels printed with imagery and maps of inner city landscapes, to constructions relating to the shoreline and found objects transformed by the tides. I use crank clay which I fire to stoneware and combine with flotsam and discarded fragments of industrial machinery to make wall pieces and free-standing structures.
I am a member of SoCo (South Coast Artists), Rye Society of Artists, and a Professional Member of the Crafts Potters Association.
