Artists’ Statement:
Working from my home studio outside of Mayfield, East Sussex, my work is influenced by the surrounding natural world and our relationship with it and each other. My practice has predominantly been based in the transformational nature of casting and sculpture.
After a stage 4 diagnosis of Bowel Cancer in 2020, I leaned into painting and drawing as I was unable to do sculpture during treatment. This allowed me to dig into the rhythm of painting as a bodily process to navigate my own and the loss of my mother to cancer simultaneously. I am currently in remission and have made a return to sculpture and installation with a new body of work that explores fragility and resilience. Porcelain objects and forms hinting at the outside world, weaving together natural and unnatural elements to create ambiguous objects reminiscent of a cabinet of curiosities—curated from my dreams and reality in an ancient woodland, a world building of sorts.
